I chose this picture because I felt
as though the subject matter was the most meaningful. I liked the way the photographer chose to
shoot the picture, using the arms of both subjects as leading lines to guide your
eye to the center of the picture. The woman
holds the man’s arm (I’m assuming it’s her husband) and draws attention towards
the ring on her finger. The black and
white effect ties the gray hues in the picture together.
I also admired the importance of
the lighting in this picture. A shadow is cast over approximately half the
picture, creating balance between the left side and the right side. I think there is significance portrayed by
the shadow cast over the man’s face because it matches his down turned expression. On the other hand, the light cast on the left
side of the picture is matched by the woman’s more upturned expression. I think it symbolizes the relationship
between the man and woman, possibly hinting at the overbearing presence of the man.
